BT Financial Group : Developing a growth mindset to support transformational change at BT
More than 45 BT Panorama program leaders and 400 program team members attended Learning Quest workshops held in Sydney, Adelaide and Perth.
According to Program Director Naz Guler “Developing these skills doesn’t just make our people better equipped to deal with change at work but also in their personal lives – it’s very powerful.”
A lot has changed since BT Financial Group embarked on its business transformation program – Panorama – back in 2012.
Recognising the intensity and stressful nature that continuous delivery of change over a sustained period can have on project teams – as required by such a complex program of work – BT engaged the services of Learning Quest.
BT Panorama is the Westpac Group’s strategic wealth transformation program, which is replacing old, rigid systems – that currently manage more than $100 billion in funds across 500,000 clients – with smart, flexible, and intuitive technology. The new technology provides a unique and innovative experience for BT customers and radically simplifies the complexity in the business.
Program Director Naz Guler says she aimed to make people feel like they were getting something back for all their hard work while embedding growth mindset behaviours aligned to the group’s new performance management process – a goal’s based, high-performance approach called ‘Motivate.’
“Given the magnitude and complexity of the challenge, BT Panorama forced us all to respond to this by bringing about the process and project delivery change required,” says Naz.
“So we evolved our delivery and execution method to a scaled agile methodology. And we embraced a collaborative, customer-centric and iterative approach to designing and building our new platform – an approach that was based on prototyping and a test-and-learn culture where it’s OK to fail fast to enable innovation.”
“Developing and rolling out new product offerings on a regular quarterly basis is extremely high pressure.
“You can only keep up this relentless pace, over a prolonged period, if you have a high performing team that has shared goals, works collaboratively to problem-solve together and isn’t afraid to have difficult conversations and look hard at what improvements are needed on a continuous basis.
“Learning Quest has helped us to embed that growth mindset via employee and leader workshops, webinars and online learning designed to help people work at their best.
“Developing these skills doesn’t just make our people better equipped to deal with change at work but also in their personal lives – it’s very powerful.”
Naz says more than 45 BT Panorama Program leaders and 400 program team members attended the workshops held in Sydney, Adelaide and Perth.
“I deeply value the concept of developing a growth mindset and have already recommended Learning Quest to other teams who are in the process of embedding Motivate,” says Naz.
“Learning Quest’s approach really suited us because they took the time to understand our needs, were excellent in their delivery and provided good follow-up. Plus they were sharp around the commercial outcomes – they never took a purist approach.”
